Gallup‘s State of the Global Workplace report is out. It’s a sobering read. They argue that the world’s GDP is going down which will make it more difficult to solve the challenges we are currently facing on a global basis.

Here’s the thing though. Gallup says that this problem is fixable – and quite easily. If we manage people differently than we have in the past.

They have found that training managers to be better managers has resulted in an increase in employee engagement for their teams from 8 – 18%. That’s significant.

And a bottom line savings to organizations, because they also estimate that you lose up to 1/3 of someone’s productivity if they are disengaged.

So yes, equipping managers to be better managers is important – but it’s also important to promote people based on their ability and willingness to spend the time managing people well.
