Imagine Claude, ChatGPT, and other models like Gemini or Mistral as thoroughbreds at the starting gate. Each is trained, conditioned, and designed slightly differently — and just like in horse racing, no one wins every race.
Some days, Claude might be faster and more precise.
Other days, ChatGPT nails the tone and creativity.
Different tracks (aka tasks) favour different runners.
Writing code? One model might shine.
Summarising a legal doc? Another might edge ahead.
Looking for creative brainstorming? Yet another might lead the pack.
Not all models are created equal
What many people don’t realise is that each platform offers multiple models. For instance:
- Claude has Claude 3 Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku — each with different speeds and capabilities.
- ChatGPT includes different modes within GPT 5.0 as well as its legacy GPT-4o – each have their niche.
- Other players like Google and Meta offer their own flavours, tuned for specific strengths.
And these models are constantly evolving — updated, retrained, and released with new capabilities. What’s true today may change tomorrow.
So… how do you choose? 🤔
If you’re just dipping your toe into the AI waters, try a few out. Test them with real-world tasks that matter to you.
- Need concise strategy ideas? Try ChatGPT Thinking Mode or Perplexity.
- Looking for nuanced language understanding? Claude 3 Opus might surprise you.
- Want speed over depth? ChatGPT Instant or Claude Haiku are often lightning-fast.
- Want a no code agent? Perplexity’s Comet is on par with ChatGPT’s Agent Mode.
